Esthe Meinen and Anja Dieleman of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) have published “Light Measuring Protocol: A Protocol to Measure LED Lighting in Horticulture.” This report details WUR’s work with manufacturers and advisors with the aim of providing a clear, practical, and uniform standard for the sector.
Current/previous ways of measuring LED lighting are based on a 2010 protocol. Due to the advancement of sensor technologies (and LED lighting systems in general), many aspects of modern LED lighting systems are not factored into the old protocol, necessitating the need for a new one.
How the New LED Lighting Protocol Works
The results of the field testing have been converted into instructions allowing for ease-of-use and step-by-step LED installation for reliable measurement found in the report, including a new calculation tool where light measurements can be entered and results generated automatically.
This new light measuring protocol was developed based on the results of the “LED Lighting: Revision of the Measuring Protocol and Sensors Used” project, which was funded by Kas als Energiebron (Greenhouse as a Source of Energy) program by the Dutch government. Additionally, during the course of the project, WUR cooperated with the following companies and organizations:
