Eden Green Technology, a vertical farming company, announced that it will close its two greenhouses in Cleburne, Texas, on Dec. 13. According to a notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission, the closure will lay off 102 employees and halt the delivery of Eden Green produce to more than 400 local retailers across Texas and Oklahoma.
According to a report from Chron.com, the notice, which was signed by CEO Eddy Badrina, states that the decision is permanent, and all employees have been informed of their final working dates.
In October 2023, the company began a $40 million expansion at its Cleburne site. Once complete, the facility was projected to triple Eden Green’s growing capacity and create around 100 new jobs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
