Vegpro Opens New Greenhouse in Quebec

On April 30, Vegpro International Inc., a producer of Fresh Attitude brand lettuce, inaugurated one of Canada’s largest greenhouses in Sherrington, Quebec, in partnership with Harnois Greenhouses.
The advanced, semi-enclosed greenhouse is designed to produce leafy greens year-round, ensuring that Quebec-grown salad is available during every season. The new facility is part of a broader $135 million investment, reflecting the company’s commitment to food autonomy and sustainability.
Vegpro has implemented advanced systems for snow and rainwater collection, closed-loop water recirculation, and energy optimization. As a result, the greenhouse will use up to 90% less water than conventional field-grown lettuce.
The facility will produce 7.8 million pounds of fresh lettuce and vegetables annually. This represents an average of 150,000 pounds per week, or 62 million portions of salad each year, that the company will distribute to Quebecers as well as residents of Ontario, the Maritimes, and the northeastern United States.
Regular production within the new greenhouse is now underway. Vegpro will market its new lettuces under a brand separate from Fresh Attitude baby lettuces and eventually add other types of vegetables to its production.
